Your complete night-time hair routine

Your complete night-time hair routine

A good hair care routine does not have to end when you leave the bathroom. The way you care for your hair before bed can make a difference in how your hair looks and feels the next morning.

While you sleep, your hair can experience friction from moving against your pillow, which may cause tangles and leave your lengths looking dry or frizzy. Creating a simple night-time hair routine can help keep your hair feeling soft, smooth and manageable overnight. Here is how to create the perfect night-time hair routine for healthy-looking hair.

1. Start by gently brushing your hair

Before going to bed, take a moment to gently brush through your hair. This helps remove tangles and prevents knots from becoming more difficult to manage overnight. Start at the ends and gradually work your way up towards the roots. This is especially important if your hair tends to tangle easily. Avoid pulling or brushing aggressively through knots, as this can cause unnecessary stress on the hair. Instead, take your time and gently detangle your lengths.

2. Add extra care to your lengths

Your ends are often the oldest and most exposed part of your hair. Throughout the day, they experience styling, friction and environmental exposure, which can leave them looking dry or dull. Before bed, apply a small amount of Hair Perfecting Shine Serum to your mid-lengths and ends. This helps give your hair extra care while creating a smoother, shinier-looking finish. Start with a small amount and focus on the areas that need it the most. If your hair is fine or easily weighed down, less is more.

If your hair feels particularly dry or in need of extra care, you can also explore our Ultimate Treatment – Reviving Night Cure, created to give your hair an intensive treatment as part of your night-time routine.

3. Avoid sleeping with wet hair

If possible, avoid going to bed with soaking wet hair. Wet hair is more delicate and can become tangled more easily while you sleep. The combination of movement and friction against your pillow may leave your hair feeling difficult to manage in the morning. If you wash your hair in the evening, allow it enough time to dry before going to bed. You can gently squeeze out excess water and use our Microfiber Hair Wrap to help absorb water without aggressively rubbing your hair.

If you choose to blow-dry your hair, remember to apply Gloss Shield Heat Protection Spray beforehand.

4. Choose a comfortable hairstyle

The hairstyle you sleep in can also make a difference. Try to avoid tight hairstyles that pull on your scalp or place constant tension on the same areas of your hair. Instead, choose a loose and comfortable hairstyle if you prefer sleeping with your hair secured.

A loose braid can be a great option for keeping longer hair more manageable overnight. If you prefer to wake up with soft, natural-looking curls, you can also create heatless curls using your favourite heatless curling method.

5. Give your hair a fresh start in the morning

A good night-time hair routine can make your morning routine easier too. After waking up, gently brush or style your hair as needed. If your lengths need extra shine, apply a small amount of Hair Perfecting Shine Serum.

If you have created heatless curls overnight, avoid brushing through them too aggressively. Instead, gently separate the curls using your fingers and style them into your desired look. The result? Soft, more manageable hair that is ready to style for the day ahead. Finish off with Ultimate Treatment - Active Day Cure for protection all day.
