Our guide to longer-lasting, defined curls — without the heat.
Heatless curls are more than just the tool you use. The right prep, technique and finishing steps can make all the difference when it comes to getting soft, defined curls that actually last throughout the day.
We’ve put together our top tips for creating your best heatless curls — from prepping your hair to setting the finished look.
01. Start with the right prep
Prep your hair with our Heatless Curls Priming Mousse before wrapping. Apply evenly through dry hair, or apply to towel-dried hair and let it dry completely before styling. The mousse gives the hair grip, definition and support from the start — helping your curls hold their shape for longer.
02. Make sure your hair is completely dry
Make sure your hair is completely dry before creating your heatless curls. Wrapping wet or damp hair can create unnecessary friction and tension on the hair, which may contribute to breakage. Starting with dry hair is the gentler option for your hair and scalp.
03. Choose a tool with some grip
Your heatless curls tool shouldn't be too smooth or slippery. A little grip helps the hair stay in place while you wrap and gives the curls something to hold onto — helping them stay defined for longer.
04. Smooth before you wrap
Brush through each section before wrapping so the hair lies smoothly against the tool. This helps prevent unwanted bumps and gives you a more polished, defined result.
05. Don't wrap too tightly at the roots
Keep the lengths secure, but avoid pulling too tightly around the scalp. Less tension at the roots means more comfortable styling and less unnecessary stress on the hair.
06. Your sections matter
Want tighter, more defined curls? Use smaller sections.
Want a softer, more effortless blowout look? Use larger sections.
The size of your sections can also affect how long your curls hold their shape.
07. Leave them in as long as possible
The longer you leave your heatless curls in, the longer they have to set. Overnight is ideal, but if you're short on time, give them at least a few hours.
08. Protect your curls while you sleep
If you're sleeping in your heatless curls, a silk or satin bonnet or pillowcase can help reduce friction and minimize frizz while you sleep — helping you wake up with smoother, more defined curls.
09. Finish with hairspray
Once you remove the tool and shape your curls, finish with our Perfect Setting Hair Spray. It gives flexible hold, helps tame flyaways and keeps your curls defined and fresh for longer — without making them feel stiff.
10. Shake them out
Once you remove your heatless curls, gently shake them out and run your fingers through the curls to separate and soften them. This gives you a more natural, effortless finish while keeping the definition.
THE RESULT
Soft. Defined. Long-lasting.
The right prep + the right technique + the right finish = heatless curls that last all day.
Love,
